Compassion in Action (CIA)
Members of the Compassion in Action program are trained to visit and provide care to hurting members of the parish or neighbors in the community. CIA is made of up individuals who want to practice being "the gentle presence of Christ" to the suffering in this world. This program allows our parish family an organized place to live out the calling which Christ spoke about in Matthew 25.
The focus of the Compassion in Action ministry is the visit--a simple, caring and attentive Orthodox presence for someone who is suffering in some way. The values of the program come from the teachings of Christ. In his conversations with many individuals who were suffering, He always spent time listening and understanding their needs. He helped them to uncover real needs and truths about themselves. Then healing took place, and in many cases their lives were transformed. A prime example of this type of encounter can be found in the story of the Samaritan Woman at the Well.
