August 18, 2016 - Several of our parishioners attended a FOCUS Detroit event at the GEE Edmonson Academy in Detroit.  FOCUS North America is a national movement of Orthodox Christians, dedicated to providing sustainable solutions in poverty stricken communities across America.  In Detroit, the primary focus has been placed on children who come from low-income households.

The group from St. Mary Magdalene started the day by sorting over 1,300 various school supplies to be given out to children, in preparation for the upcoming school year.  They also spent time pairing and packing away donated shoes for students who are unable to afford them.

In the afternoon, the group took a trip to the Jolly Pumpkin in Midtown with FOCUS director Eric Shanburn, to discuss ways to bring FOCUS into the Flint area, and give our parish families a "close by" opportunity to make a difference in our own community.

The trip to Detroit concluded with a wonderful visit to the ROCCOR Monastery of St. Sabbas.
